Invitation: a-days meeting in Belgium Nov. 6-7
International Nuclear Weapons Abolition Days planning meeting in Gent, Belgium 6-7 November 1999
28 Oct 1999
Once again the past weeks must have been very busy for many of us dedicated to free the world of nuclear weapons.
The refusal by the US Senate to ratify the CTBT; lobbying for the NAC-resolution in UN; the trial victory of the Trident Ploughshares-women in Scotland; and the Pentagon finally admitting the deployment of US-nuclear bombs in European NATO-bases were enough to fill up one's agenda.
Yet we would like to ask you to draw one more red circle in you calendar, and TO JOIN US IN THE INTERNATIONAL ABOLITION DAYS MEETING IN GENT, BELGIUM 6-7 NOVEMBER 1999 to make plans for the future campaigning and strategies in our legal campaign of civil (dis)obedience.
We expect campaigners from For Mother Earth Int'l, Ak Malten from the Global Anti-Nuclear Alliance, Hans Lammerant from War Resisters Int'l -Flemish section and George Farebrother from the World Court Project -UK.
We wait for confirmation from new participants especially from NATO nuclear member states France, Germany, Greece and Italy.Proposed agenda (your input is welcome)
- reporting latest citizens inspections and trials
- broadening the campaign into all NATO-states with nuclear weapons
- December action(s) at NATO Ministerial Meetings in Brussels (Defence
- Nuclear Planning Group & Foreign Affairs)
- brainstorming ideas for the future (NPT Review Conference, int'l action days 2000, speaking tours, publications,...)
- making a campaign-timeline for the coming year
- working groups: networking, legal, lobby, outreach, media, financies, ...
- of course we will also take time for a party.
The meeting will take place at Gents Ecologisch Centrum, Maria-Hendrikaplein 5-6, 9000 Gent, Belgium starting at 10 a.m on Saturday 6 November (straight across the square of the main 'Gent Sint-Pieters' railway station).
Please let us know when you are coming to make it easier for us to arrange the logistics well.
Looking forward to meeting you on 6-7 November! Peace and love,
Katri Silvonen, Pol D'Huyvetter
